Day 4-6 in Kanazawa
After visiting Takayama, we were headed to Kanazawa (金沢)
Kanazawa is the capital city of Ishikawa Prefecture, located on the Sea of Japan coast in the Hokuriku region of Japan. We were really happy to visit this city, which has a rich history and one of its famous and most beautiful garden, Kenrokuen Garden (兼六園). This city is also well known for the gold leaf products.
Took the JR from Takayama to Kanazawa station making use of our 5 Days JR Pass.
Journey: 2 hrs plus
Went to collect our rental car at Kanazawa station
Lunch at one of the largest fresh food market in Kanazawa and specialize in fresh seafood!
most shops open from 9am to 5.30pm
it was crowded but not as crowded as the market in Osaka (kuromon market).
A glimpse of the morning market, looks just like typical japanese morning market |
Chazuke! |
Forgot what is this but the fish here is really fresh! |
Must go! Nagamachi Samurai District (長町)
Went for a quick walk around this district, this was a Samurai district where samurai and their families used to reside.
Must go! Higashi Chaya district (東茶屋街)
One of the nicest district where there are alot of cafes and shops.
The area was beautifully preserved with wooden house, teahouses!

Try the gold plated ice cream HAKUICHI CAFÉ
This is must try in Kanazawa ~
Gold plated soft serve |
Visited AutoBacs store as well.. this is a random stop, if you want to shop for automobile products you should visit the autobacs stores in Japan as they sell a pretty wide range of products that are not available elsewhere.
Random stop at autobacs |
Dinner at Saizeriya~
Hotel for 2 nights: Hotel Intergate Kanazawa
This hotel was very new when we stayed here in 2020 and worth the money. It cost like S$67 per night!
It is not really near the train station, but since we are driving, it doesn't really matters as long as there is a carpark nearby.
We had to park at the nearby public carpark which is just like 2 min walk since the hotel does not have its own carpark. (it is quite common in Japan)
Very clean and comfortable hotel |
Day 2 in Kanazawa
Started the morning by having a quick brunch at a nearby 7-eleven.
7-11 meal in the car |
Visit Kenrokuen Garden (兼六園)
Kenrokuen (兼六園) is a renowned and beautiful traditional Japanese garden and it is famously ranked as one of the "Three Great Gardens of Japan".
have you visited all the three great garden of Japan yet?
- Kenrokuen (兼六園): Located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.
- Kairakuen (偕楽園): Located in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture.
- Korakuen (後楽園): Located in Okayama, Okayama Prefecture.
We parked the car nearby and proceeded to the garden

Flowers blooming in the garden |
Sakura ? or plum ? |
Scenery in the garden |
Nice right? |
Visit Chirihama Beach Driveway (千里浜海水浴場) for the experience!
This is about 45minutes drive from Kenrokuen
Chirihama Beach is the only beach in Japan where you can drive your car on the sand which is a very unique experience.
You can buy some food and chill on the beach here~
Chilling with our rented car |
Nice scenery~ |
From the side mirror |
Quick lunch/snack at a random restaurant! Forgot the name! |
Off to the next stop!
Visit Ganmon Sea Cave (巌門)
This is for the nature and rock formation~
The rocks and the area around the coastline offers stunning scenes natural beauty.
This place about 35 minutes drive from the Chirihama beach.
Beautiful rock formations and the sea |
Peaceful |

Soo nice! |
Visit Shiroyone Senmaida 白米千枚田
This is a scenic hillside of tiered rice paddies.
Sadly, because we visited during winter, the rice paddy was not grown yet and not as green.
The best time to visit is during winter at night from mid-October to mid-March to see the LED lights up.
We did not stay till the night as it will be too late as we were staying in Kanazawa.
Damn cute |
Typical Japanese food but it tastes really nice |
This is the restaurant its located at the basement |
Ended our day visiting this Korona world shopping mall with Donki
It was snowing then~
